Hey y’all! So you are interested in taking voice lessons! I am grateful that you have considered me to teach voice! In this blog post, I am going to share with you a few little tips to have an awesome first lesson! Don’t forget that your first lesson with me is free, it’s like a trial lesson!

Materials

First and foremost, it is important to come prepared, even for your first/trial lesson. Some of the materials you will need are:

Water Bottle -- During a voice lesson, even if it is only 30 minutes, it is always important to stay hydrated. Having a good water bottle with you during the lesson will help you stay healthy and hydrated during our voice lesson! One of my favorite water bottles is linked here if you were curious about what I use!

Book -- The book I assign will vary on age, range and student interest. Some students enjoy singing classical, some students enjoy singing pop, some students enjoy singing Broadway. In addition to that, where you fall in your range is another factor in which book I will assign you. If you are wondering which books I enjoy using, I have listed a few here so you can get a good idea about what you could be working with! Keep in mind that this is just to get you an idea about the style of books I use, there so many options but I wanted to share with you a few of my favorites!

Notebook -- So much happens during a week! I recommend bringing a notebook to lessons every week including the very first lesson so that I can write lesson notes in it. That way your practice time is much easier and I will have a refresher for the following week.

Come Prepared

In our first lesson, I want to know what you want to learn! I appreciate students who come to lessons ready to share their musician goals and interests that includes what genres and styles you want to learn. As your teacher, having this information causes me to create a lesson that is best suited for you and your goals! If you are unsure as well, that is 100% okay! I will be ready to guide you to improve your singing skill!

Build a Relationship

While taking my Master’s Degree courses, I know that it is crucial to build a strong relationship as teacher and student. I want you to be as successful as you can be. I am an honest teacher who wants the best for you. That relationship is built on honesty so I expect students to be honest with their goals and understanding so that I can do my job well and you can get the most out of your lesson! I promise to be honest with you and guide you to the best of my abilities to improve your singing skills.

Have Fun!

Music is fun! It is a stress reliever and learning a new skill is exciting! I can’t wait to teach you voice and grant you opportunities to grow as a musician! It is important to learn and spark your interests which is why a portion of my lesson focuses on student interest! I want you to enjoy lessons!
